Jan Plagge studied horticulture and worked from 1997 to 2000 as a consultant for organic farming and horticulture in East Germany. Subsequently, as managing director of the Bioland Erzeugerring Bayern e.V., he was responsible in particular for the development of Bioland Consulting in Bavaria until he finally took over the management of Bioland Beratung GmbH in 2008. Under his leadership, a nationwide advisory and training program was set up, which also includes a trainee program for young people in the organic sector.
Jan Plagge has been President of Bioland and board member of the Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft (BÖLW) since 2011. In 2016, he was elected Vice President of the IFOAM EU Group (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) and in 2018 President.
